One moment it was pure fan frenzy. The next, it was panic. What was supposed to be a joyous pre-release celebration for Toxic turned into a nightmare within seconds on Saturday night, when a massive sound box structure came crashing down on the crowd at Malla Reddy University in Hyderabad. Two students were injured, a young woman collapsed unconscious, and right in the middle of it all was actor Yash, forced to stop his own speech mid-sentence to make sure his fans were safe.

Thousands of students had congregated in the university premises; some had been waiting for hours just to get a glimpse of Yash. The energy was electric, as said. But it is the same excitement that caused the disaster.

A gang of overexcited fans chose to scale the poles supporting the sound boxes, as Yash was on stage speaking to the cheering crowd. There was a bit of a shrug at the time. Those poles were never intended to support such weight and in mere seconds, the whole structure collapsed and toppled before an onlooker into the crowd below.

Screams broke out. The fall caused injury to two pupils and they had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. But it wasn’t enough to be alarmed; one young woman in the crowd reportedly fainted from the shock and was immediately attended to.

What makes this even worse is the fact that the students were told to stay back from the stage earlier in the evening because of the fear of such overcrowding incidents. But the warning fell on deaf ears. Despite this, fans pushed on, some even climbing on to structures around the stadium, with the hope of getting a closer look at their favourite star.

Yash Stops Everything Mid-Speech

This is where the actor put her head in the game. When Yash felt something was amiss in the crowd, he didn’t go on as if nothing had happened. He became silent, appeared to be shocked and immediately shouted to the organisers.

Hey, look around, is everything OK there? Well, students, Sir, be careful, please,” he said from the stage, his voice piercing the noise of the crowd.

Shortly thereafter, he saw another group of fans on another structure nearby, apparently having forgotten what just happened. Yash didn’t hesitate. He sternly ordered them, “Get down, please, please.

It didn’t end there. Still visibly worried, Yash checked in again after a few minutes, asking the crowd and organisers, “Is everything okay there now? Is everyone safe?” Only once he got confirmation that things were under control did he pick his speech back up and continue.

The collapsing is not enough to make this incident stick with people. It’s because a warning had been issued and ignored and they didn’t seem to see the danger in time, except for the actor on stage! Yash’s fast reflexes may have saved the bad situation from getting worse.

It can only be just a few days before the release of toxic substances

Everything was happening as part of Toxic’s promotional activities for the much-anticipated gangster action drama that stars Yash with Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria. The film, helmed by Geetu Mohandas and with an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, and is expected to hit theatres on August 26, with music by Charan Raj.

Now, if anything, Saturday’s chaos in Hyderabad only bolsters the fact of just how massive the anticipation of Toxic is. People came in droves to see Yash, and this unwavering excitement is what led to the events of the next few minutes. Fortunately, there were no casualties and timely on-the-ground response prevented it from spiraling into a tragedy.
