Indian Overseas Bank Recruitment 2026: This month, there is something of interest for their bank job aspirants. Indian Overseas Bank has issued its official notification for the recruitment of Local Bank Officers (LBO) on 07 August 2026 with 250 vacancies under JMGS-I scale.

If you have been preparing for banking exams and know the local language of any of the states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat, then this recruitment is especially for you.

On 8 August 2026, the application process was opened and will remain open until 24 August 2026. Registration, form filling and payment of fees are now online. This time, the entire process will run online, including registration, form filling and fee collection from the IOB official website www.iob.bank.in.

One aspect which makes this recruitment a little different from the regular bank exam cycle is the state-specific hiring model. Not just does the selected candidate get a job with IOB, he or she also gets posted in the state where he or she applied for the job, subject to his or her capability to communicate in the local language of that state. First of all, it’s important to know how this recruitment works before completing the form.

Why This Recruitment Stands Out

Two things about this particular drive genuinely set it apart from your typical bank recruitment, and both are worth keeping in mind before you apply.

  • It’s built around local language proficiency, not just qualification. You can only apply for one state, and if you did not study the state’s language in 10th or 12th grade, you must pass a Language Proficiency Test to remain eligible. This is not a mere formality; it has a real impact on who is shortlisted.
  • Postings are tied directly to the state you apply for. Unlike many bank recruitments where you might get posted anywhere in India, IOB has structured this specifically, so candidates serve in the same state whose language and culture they’re already familiar with.

Keep these two points in mind when determining whether to apply, as they have an impact on practically every aspect of this recruitment, from eligibility to your day-to-day work life following selection.

State-Wise Vacancy Breakdown

The total 250 posts are split across four states, and the language requirement for each is non-negotiable. Tamil Nadu has the largest share with 100 vacancies, and candidates applying here need proficiency in Tamil. Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat each have 50 vacancies apiece, requiring proficiency in Kannada, Marathi, and Gujarati, respectively.

State Required Language Vacancies
Tamil Nadu Tamil 100
Karnataka Kannada 50
Maharashtra Marathi 50
Gujarat Gujarati 50
Total 250

One key note to remember: Only one state can be applied for. There is no chance to hedge your bets by applying to more than one state; so it is important to decide where you are actually comfortable living and working in the long term. Even if a candidate submits multiple applications, it’s not gracefully handled either, as the last completed application is considered the valid one and all previous attempts will be ignored and discarded.

Also note that this is not a temporary posting agreement. After being selected, you usually serve for the first 12 years in the same state or until you reach the rank of SMGS-IV. Because this move is not only a choice about where you would like to work for the foreseeable future, it’s a choice you should take seriously.

Who’s Eligible to Apply

The requirements are very simple here, but it is important to note the details. Candidates must be a graduate from any stream in a university recognised by the Government of India. Commerce, science, arts, engineering there’s no limitation on stream; commerce.

For age, candidates should be between 20 and 30 years as on 1st August 2026, which means candidates born between 2nd August 1996 and 1st August 2006. Relaxation is given to candidates of reserved category (SC/ST): 5 Years, OBC (Non-creamy layer): 3 years, and Disabled candidates with Benchmark Disabilities: 10 Years. Also, ex-servicemen and those affected by the riots of 1984 are also availed with relaxation in accordance with government norms.

In addition to qualifications and age, it requires the candidate to be an Indian citizen, or one of a few specific categories such as Nepal / Bhutan subjects, Tibetan refugees with proper documents, etc. Don’t forget that it will be a local language requirement, regardless of your academic speciality.

Age Relaxation Category Relaxation
SC / ST 5 years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 3 years
PwBD 10 years
Affected by 1984 riots 5 years
Ex-Servicemen / ECOs / SSCOs 5 years

Even if you qualify for relaxation under more than one category, there’s a cap: the combined benefit can’t push your effective age limit beyond 50 years.

Indian Overseas Bank Recruitment 2026 Application Fee

The fee structure follows the usual government recruitment pattern. General, EWS, and OBC candidates need to pay ₹850, inclusive of GST. SC, ST, and PwBD candidates pay a reduced fee of ₹175.

Payment happens entirely online; debit card, credit card, internet banking, or UPI all work. One thing worth remembering here: once you’ve paid the fee, it’s non-refundable and can’t be carried over to any other recruitment process, so make sure your application details are accurate before you get to the payment step.

How Selection Actually Works

The selection process is spread out over three phases, and knowing the weightage of each is more important than most candidates think. This first stage is an online paper that contains 140 questions and is valued at 200 marks for a total time limit of 3 hours. It includes Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, General and Banking Awareness, Data Analysis and Interpretation, and English Knowledge (all with a specific time limit). There’s also negative marking: A quarter mark is subtracted for every incorrect answer, but if you miss a question, it doesn’t suffer any penalties.

Candidates who have not pursued the relevant state language education in school must upload a Language Proficiency Test, which is only a qualifying language proficiency test. If this is passed, and all others who passed the written examination go on to a Personal Interview (100 marks).

The merit list is not based on the interview alone, and here’s where it gets interesting. It is based on 80% weightage of the online exam, and 20% weightage of the interview. If you do well on the written test, you truly have a better chance of being selected than if you do well on the interview.

Section Questions Marks Duration
Reasoning & Computer Aptitude 30 60 60 minutes
General/Economy/Banking Awareness 40 40 30 minutes
Data Analysis & Interpretation 30 60 60 minutes
English Knowledge 40 40 30 minutes
Total 140 200 3 hours

If you’re someone who tends to run out of time in banking exams, this sectional time limit is worth noting: you can’t borrow extra minutes from one section to finish another, so pacing yourself within each section matters just as much as overall preparation.

Wages and Conditions of Service

The selected candidates will be appointed at the JMGS-I pay level of ₹48,480 to ₹85,920. Those with relevant experience may even receive two or three steps up from the starting basic pay, making their starting salary even higher than the base pay.

Along with the basic pay, you will get Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, medical benefits, Leave Travel Concession, etc. as standard benefits granted by the bank.

The process includes a two-year probation after joining, and a service bond of ₹2,00,000 that requires three years of service in the bank. This is a common requirement in many public sector bank job advertisements, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise if you have had similar applications previously.

The documents required before the application process

It’s a good idea to have all the items you need scanned before you attempt to fill out the online form, including a recent passport-size photo, a left thumb impression, a handwritten declaration and your signature in the proper format.

Additionally, your graduation degree or final marksheet will be required, as well as your 10th and 12th marksheets, which will help prove that you studied the relevant local language as a subject. For the reserved category, you must have a caste certificate with you and a PwBD certificate (if applicable). There’s a need for a valid photo ID as well, like Aadhaar, PAN, passport or voter ID. Those who are currently employed with a government body, PSU or any other bank would require a No Objection Certificate from their respective employer. You need to have your email ID and mobile number as well, as all future communication with you will be through these.

How to Apply Online

The Application Process is done on the official website of IOB as well as on the link provided on IBPS’s website. First, go to the website www.iob.bank.in and click on the Careers section at the top of the home page. Then, find the Recruitment 2026-27 column and click on Apply Online under Local Bank Officers. This will take you to the IBPS registration portal, where fresh applicants must click on “Click here to Register Online” and enter the details: Name, Mobile number and email ID.

After registration, you will be provided with a Registration number and password. Be sure to keep them safe, as they will be required to log in again and finish the process for your application. Once you log in, you need to complete your profile with your details, educational qualifications, and, importantly, your desired state to choose from (you will have to choose one only).

Please upload your scanned photograph, signature, thumb impression and handwritten declaration as detailed in the notification. Pay the application fee, depending on your category; check all sections of the application form carefully; and then click Complete Registration to submit your application form.

Once submitted, download and save a printout of both your final application form and the payment receipt. These will be helpful later when verifying documents or at the interview.
