The Delhi government has announced a new policy: a Free JEE NEET Coaching scheme for students from Class 12 in government and government-aided schools. In this scheme, meritorious students from the economically weaker sections(EWS) will be provided 100%  sponsorship for a one-year residential coaching program with Dakshana Foundation. This Free JEE NEET Coaching scheme aims to make sure that no extraordinary student is denied a chance of cracking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or the National Eligibility  Entrance Test (NEET) due to his/her family’s financial constraints for private coaching. The selection process for this Free JEE NEET Coaching programme will be done through the Joint Dakshana Selection Test (JDST) 2027, which is to be conducted in December 2026.

The Free JEE NEET Coaching for Class 12 students would be provided in a scholarship agreement with the Dakshana Foundation, a non-profit organization, which has been conducting residential coaching programs for students from underprivileged sections of India for almost 20 years.

The selected students will appear for the JDST 2027, and those who pass the test will get admission in a 1-year residential coaching course. The Directorate of Education (DoE) has already communicated to all the eligible government and government-aided schools in Delhi about the programme. Schools have been asked to start the process of identifying and nominating appropriate candidates for the next few weeks.

The JEE NEET coaching scholarship is free and is available for meritorious and deserving Class 12 Science students of the current academic session from government and government-aided schools.

The eligibility criteria for the rollout of Dakshana in Delhi is still to be worked out by the DoE, but similar Dakshana scholarships in other states generally require the following:

  • A minimum merit cut-off in Class 10 Science and Mathematics
  • Family income not exceeding ₹3 lakh per annum

Further eligibility norms are expected as the selection process progresses.

Students who are selected under this free coaching scheme for JEE will be provided coaching at Dakshana Valley, Kadus village, in Pune district, Maharashtra. The campus has been in existence since 1998 and is more than 100 acres in area with a good reputation for producing high-performing candidates for national entrance examinations.

This programme is not just about tuition, by any means. Selected students will receive full coaching, accommodation and food for the entire course of one year as certified by the department. This structure is totally inclusive and has been designed to eliminate the financial constraints that many students from low-income backgrounds face when seeking admission into coaching institutes that prepare them for entrance exams and can cost lakhs of rupees each year.

This is not the Delhi government’s first initiative for providing free coaching to government school students in JEE NEET. Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party government had tied up with the not-for-profit organisation Avanti Fellows for providing free NEET and JEE coaching to almost 6,000 students of Classes 11 and 12. The program was popular among many of the first-generation learners, including a substantial number of girls from SC and ST communities, who would otherwise not have been able to receive quality coaching.

In this regard, the Government of Delhi has also sponsored the SC/ST and economically weaker students under other schemes such as Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana (10th/12th standards). This is the newest of many philanthropic partnerships being established aimed at fairer competition among students for entry to colleges and universities.

This free JEE NEET coaching scheme is similar to other states that are already running such schemes. For example, Karnataka conducts free coaching for students of NEET, JEE, and other competitive and government recruitment exams for those who are unable to afford private coaching under the scheme named Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Margadarshini.

In recent years, government-sponsored coaching programs of this kind have become a major success in India, with state governments aiming to alleviate the reliance on expensive private coaching institutes for securing admission to prestigious engineering and medical colleges.

Delhi government students interested in free JEE NEET coaching should wait for more updates from their schools about the registration process and the necessary documents and forms for JDST 2027. The shortlist for appearing in the JEE NEET 2027 is usually published some weeks before the exam.

Under Dakshana’s residential model, parents and students are urged to remain in regular contact with their school administration to avoid missing the crucial deadlines and ensure that seats are promoted to all parts of the country. The Directorate of Education has requested schools to keep an eye on the official website for more details on the rollout of the programme.

The Delhi government’s JEE NEET coaching scheme is a positive move towards ensuring that students from economically weaker sections have access to quality coaching for entrance exams, with millions appearing for the JEE and NEET exams annually and private coaching fees increasing. The programme will be carefully monitored as it progresses, not only for the benefit of this year’s candidates but also as a model for other states to follow or develop.
